Home Landscaping - Avoid My 3 Mistakes

Before shovel earth meets, take a deep breath and close your eyes and picture ... Nature run amok? Trust me, it can happen. When it comes to creating beautiful and functional outdoor spaces, a bit of thinking and foresight ( and graph paper ) goes a long way. Here are some tips from first-hand can help you, beginners' mistakes - my own!

Have A Plan

I patterned, nature does not have a plan. Why do I need? Well, it turns out, nature does have a plan - survival of the fittest. The strong overtake the weak. And the concept of aesthetically is an unknown term in nature. We house owners, on the other side want all of our plants to survive and grow strong and weak, hand in hand sing Kum By Ya as a central point birch clumps varies us gently in hammocks, our lips dyed with Kool-Aid. And if we open our eyes that from August nap, we want to see rolling, flowing waves of plant life and neighbors envious. It can not happen without a plan.

In planning landscape design, start with a paper and pencil sketch (action). Outline your game, home and driveway, and start doodling some ideas. Sketching, flower beds - do you want curved, flowing boundaries or sharp, formal lines and angles to the beds? Free-standing cluster shrubs, grasses and flowers - where? And trees - evergreen or deciduous trees, standing alone or clusters or in a bed?

Need some other ideas? Look at those dang neighbours. Take a drive and select from yards that you particularly well landscaped gardens. Take notes or even images. Note: Leave the telephoto lens at home to avoid calling 911 neighbors. Better still, ask permission of the owner. You will probably get the permit, a radiant smile and a detailed discussion of each plant.

Find more ideas in books and magazines, major sources not only for relevant photographs and detailed planning guide, but critical help in the identification of individual plants Your climate zone and preferred level of maintenance.

Not Crowd those new Plants

Each container work of your favorite nursery or garden center will have attached a small plastic tag identifying the plant planting and offer suggestions. Treat those proposals as gold. Above all, the distances suggestions. To wit, the three Blue Pfitzer juniper purchased by yours truly and two Fae distance of each other in a front flower bed when the tags said to them 5-6 square meters apart. My thinking was: but they are so tiny . And they looked ridiculous in this tiny grand old empty flower beds. So I pushed them together and two years later, I was digging up the middle and planting next two years and then I was up to dig, because all three had outgrown them together the flower beds. I threw'em in the soil along the back fence and now they are trying to push the fence down.

So here a few words to the wise: plants grow. Some plants grow powerful. So radius of the plants are start.

remember, you have Still Got To Mow

Unless your plan calls for a bush or flower on every square foot of your lot, remember that the remaining amount of grass needs to maintain. One of the early mistakes I was not that easy to mow. I positioned low-hanging trees in the middle of the courtyard, a few too many free lumps of this and that, flower beds and times that the connection with a lawn mower particularly difficult. Soft green grass is a beautiful thing, and I am a big fan but not forgotten in the planning of landscape design at home, you will mow the grass every week.

And the older you get the less you will be amused by the Limbo under low tree branches.
